HCMC, March 22, 2021 – The legacy of Dante Alighieri, his influence in the Vietnamese literature, the state of the art in Italian (and foreign) literatures teaching in Vietnam, the initiatives to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the death of the greatest Italian poet, author of the Comedy, one of the masterpieces of universal literature, and founding father of the Italian language.
These were the themes at the center of the meeting between Consul General Brandi and Prof. Le Giang, Director of the Department of Vietnamese Studies, former Director of the Literature Department of the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The meeting focused on the celebrations that the “Sistema Italia” (Embassy of Italy in Hanoi, Consulate General of Italy in HCMC, Uni-Italia Vietnam, Società Dante Alighieri Vietnam) already plans to hold in Vietnam for the anniversary, but also on new initiatives, with the possible involvement of Vietnamese academicians, experts in comparative literatures and local scholars of international literatures.
The events already scheduled include the “Inferno V” augmented reality exhibition, which will showcase in Hanoi in March-April and in HCMC in May-June, the “Dante in Comics” exhibition, scheduled for October, seminars and monographic lessons held by Italian lecturers and Vietnamese scholars of comparative literature in the Departments of Italian Language and Culture in Hanoi and HCMC during the Italian Language Week (October).
Among the possible new initiatives, Prof. Giang and CG Brandi shared ideas on a celebratory edition of the Vietnamese Literature Review on Dante and a new edition of the Comedy in Vietnamese, in the translation of the illustrious scholar Prof. Nguyen Van Hoan, who died in 2015.
