On April 15th \u2013 the anniversary of the birth of Leonardo da Vinci \u2013 Italy celebrates the Italian Research Day in the World.<\/strong> Science and research are an important driver of Italy\u2019s advanced economy. Italy ranks 7th in the world for the number of scientific publications and 8th for the quality of publications (Scimago). The contribution of Italian scientists worldwide and the network of Italy\u2019s international relations in science and technology are essential to these achievements.<\/p>\n

Research cooperation between Italy and Vietnam dates back to 1992,<\/strong> when the first protocol on scientific and technological cooperation between Italy and Vietnam was signed. Since then, more than 40 joint research projects, financed by the Italian and Vietnamese governments, have provided a relevant contribution in many research fields for the wellbeing of our citizens.<\/p>\n

The President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella<\/strong>, has recently recognised the relevance of Italy-Vietnam cooperation in S&T by granting two awards: one in memory of Prof. Carlo Urbani, the WHO epidemiologist who lost his life in fighting SARS in Vietnam in 2003; one for Prof. Ta Hai Tung, Italian alumnus and founder of the Italy-supported Satellite Navigation Centre at the Hanoi University of Science and technology (HUST).<\/p>\n

This year the Italian Research Day in Vietnam will include two initiatives.<\/p>\n

– UniSmartItaly. Study and work with Italy<\/strong> (unismartitaly.education.ice.it\/), a virtual fair organised by the Conference of the Rectors of the Italian Universities (CRUI) and the Italia Trade Agency (ICE) to promote the Italian higher education and research system amongst the Vietnamese students. The fair will be held in a hybrid mode, on line and at Casa Italia<\/strong> – Generali Hall (18 Le Phung Hieu, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi), from April 16th to April 24th 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The fair will be inaugurated on Friday 16th of April at 15:00 with the participation of Italian and Vietnamese speakers, including Ms. Maria Cristina Messa, Minister of University and Research of Italy. During the fair daily thematic webinars will be held by Italian Universities to present their education and research offer, followed by interactive meetings with students, Vietnamese universities and Italian and Vietnamese businesses.<\/p>\n

The closing event will take place on April 24th and will focus on Science and technology<\/strong> in the Italy-Vietnam cooperation, providing an overview of the existing opportunities and national and international funding schemes.<\/p>\n

– Italy-Vietnam Conference on Science and Technology Cooperation. Experiences and Perspectives for Sustainable Development.<\/strong> The conference will be held in a hybrid mode, online and at the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ha Noi, on May 6th at 14.00<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The event will present the achievements of almost 30 years of bilateral scientific cooperation between Italy and Vietnam, including seven Executive Protocols and more than 40 joint projects in fields such as: cultural heritage, ICT, agriculture, water management, health, remote sensing.<\/p>\n

A special volume published by Springer – UNIPA series 2020: Innovations in Land, Water and Energy for Vietnam\u2019s Sustainable Development<\/strong>, will be presented, collecting 18 scientific papers co-authored by Vietnamese and Italian scientists.<\/p>\n

The workshop will be opened by the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Associate Professor Bui The Duy, and the Ambassador of Italy to Vietnam, Antonio Alessandro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A press conference open to the public<\/strong> will be held on Thursday 15 of April at 2:00 pm at Casa Italia<\/strong>, Generali Hall (18 Le Phung Hieu, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi). Multimedia content on science and technology activities and Italy-Vietnam cooperation will be presented.<\/p>\n
