The final test, handover ceremony and field visits of the “Weather forecasting model and flood forecasting model”, in the framework of the project “Strengthening the flood forecasting and warning system in Vietnam” funded by the Italian Aid Cooperation and deployed by Italian company CAE, took place on September 21st-22nd, 2020 in the Vietnamese provinces of Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan.
The initiative will contribute on securing people and territories of the Central-South regions of Vietnam from natural disasters caused by typhoons and tropical storms.
This is a further commitment of Italy, which is actually co-presiding the 26th UN Conference of the Parties on climate change (COP-26), to support five provinces of South and Central Vietnam (Khanh Hoa, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan) from the unpredictability of climate change. The project now includes a fully operational system of 140 hydro-meteorological and marine stations deployed along all the costs and main rivers in Vietnam, to collect data and increase the capacity of prevention and warning from the consequences of extreme weather events.
The ceremony and visits have been hosted by Mr. Duong Van Khanh – Director of the Center for Hydro-Meteorological Observation in Hanoi, and they were attended by the Consul General of Italy in HCMC, Dante Brandi, and the Director of Italian Aid Cooperation Agency in Hanoi, Martino Melli.
The event is proudly part of the activities of the Sustainable Development Festival 2020, co-organised by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Asvis Italia.
