GRAND TASTING FRESCOBALDI IN HCMC. THE EXPANSION OF ITALIAN QUALITY WINES IN VIETNAM.

HCMC, July 22nd 2020 – One of the oldest Italian winemaker, with more than 700 years of history, has been the protagonist of a special event in the heart of Saigon. Tre Frescobaldi Grand Tasting, organized by the local dealers Malthop-Winecellear in the iconic Park Hyatt hotel in HCMC, brilliantly showcased the amazing bottles of one of the largest Italian producers, which has in its portfolio some of the most sought-after wine at a global level, like Luce, Ornellaia and Masseto.
Even though Vietnam is still a relatively small market for international wines, the potential for growth is there, thanks to the hospitality industry expansion and the growing spending capacity of the Vietnamese households. In his opening remarks, Consul General Dante Brandi underlined the importance of wine for Italy, which is still number one at a global level for production, cultivated surface and variety (number indigenous grapes). Italian wine exports have steadily increased in Vietnam over the last five years, with a market share which is close to 20 per cent. Further growth is expected as a result of the entry into force of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement and the subsequent, progressive reduction of duties and taxes on beverages. Another driver for growths is the expansion of a wine culture in the country, especially among the youngest generations. Consul General Brandi concluded that, consistently, the whole Sistema Italia in Vietnam (Embassy, Consulate General, Italian Trade Agency and Italian Chamber of Commerce) is focused on initiatives and events to promote Italian wine in Vietnam.
