Alessandra TOGNONATO

Consul General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City from August 19th, 2025

 

Born in Ivrea on August 17, 1976, she graduated with honors in International and Diplomatic Studies at the University of Trieste in 1999.

She entered the diplomatic career in 2001, starting at the Directorate-General for Europe of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In 2003 – 2004 she followed a high-level training programme on public administration and management at the E.N.A., Ecole Nationale d’Administration in Paris.

As first assignment abroad, he served between 2004 and 2007 she served as Consul of Italy at the Consulate General in Buenos Aires.

From 2008 to 2012 she was posted at the Italian Embassy in Berlin, where she served as Deputy Head of the Political Office.

In 2012 she was promoted to the rank of Counselor.

Following her return to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome in 2012, she became Deputy Head of the Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Office, Political Affairs.

In 2015 she was posted as Counsellor at the Italian Embassy in Cairo, where she was responsible for the Consular and Migration Office.

From 2018 to 2022 she served at Italian Embassy in Berlin as Spokesperson and Head of Press & Communication Office.

In 2020 she was promoted to the rank of First Counselor.

Back to Rome, she was first appointed as Principal Advisor on Communication at the Directorate-General for the Promotion of Italy. Since end of 2022, within the same Directorate-General, she is Head of Office for bilateral Scientific and Technologic cooperation, responsible for Science Diplomacy and in the same Directorate-General.

In 2016 she was bestowed with the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (Cavaliere dell’Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana) by the President of the Italian Republic.

On August 21st, 2025, she presented her Credentials to the Vietnamese Government and received the Exequatur in return as the quality of the Consul General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City.

She is Italian and French mother tongue and speaks fluently German, English, Spanish and has a good knowledge of Japanese.

She has two children, Ms. Vanessa and Mr. Maximilian.
