SIMPLY GREAT ITALIAN WINES: PROSECCO AND CHIANTI

HCMC, March 18, 2021 - In 2020, with over 11 million euros of wine exported and a market share of 25.6 percent, Italy became Vietnam's main wine supplier, surpassing France and Chile for the first time. The Vietnamese import of Italian sparkling wines, in particular, grew by 3.5 percent compared to 2019, with a value of almost 4 million euros.

These excellent results, certified by the Italian Trade Agency, stood as perfect backdrop for the "Simply Great Italian Wines" event, which took place today in HCMC. It event consisted in a masterclasses and guided tasting of Prosecco and Chianti, commissioned by International Exhibition Management to the HCMC Italian Trade Agency, with the support of the Consulate General Italy and the participation of the Consortia for the Protection of Prosecco DOC and Chianti Wine.

Over thirty importers, distributors, influencers of the wine sector, led by the President of the Saigon Sommelier Association Tu Le Huy and by the brand Ambassador of Chianti wines Luca Alves, connected from Florence, were therefore able to complete a tasting and cognitive path of two of the most representative wines of our country, growingly popular worldwide.

The event allowed to take stock of the results achieved by Prosecco and Chianti, real bottled-expressions of the beautiful territories they belong to (such as the Val d'Orcia and the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene Hills, both UNESCO World Heritage sites), and on their diffusion in Vietnam. On the local market, in fact, the slowdown in the hospitality sector from Covid-19 has not prevented the progress in consumption of the growing middle class. Further growth is expected thanks to the approach to wine of Vietnamese women and younger generation, thanks to new forms of sales such as e-commerce, and thanks to tariff reductions resulting from the free trade agreement between the European Union and Vietnam (EVFTA).
