Do not give up on your trip to Italy. Covid-19: new measures for visa applicants in case of travel postponement.

The Italian Government has restricted the freedom of movement within the country to prevent the widespread of virus Covid-19.

Italian citizens and foreigners residing in or visiting Italy are allowed to travel solely for work requirements, health needs or reasons of necessity, such as shopping for food and other essentials.

Considering these restrictions, new measures apply to facilitate visa applicants who decide to postpone their visit to Italy, as follows:

  1. In case of visitors who applied for a visa not yet issued, applicants can request the visa to be processed according to the new schedule, with no additional fees.

  2. In case of visa that have already been issued with validity between February 1st and June 30th, 2020, but not yet used, the Embassy of Italy in Hanoi and the Consulate General of Italy in HCMC, for their respective jurisdictions, are entitled to issue new substituting visas, of short duration (up to 90 days), with no additional fees. This possibility applies only for postponed trips, but not for cancelled trips.

In both cases applicants will have to submit new supporting papers according to the new dates (itinerary; new travel bookings; same hotel bookings but confirmed for the new dates; new insurance policy covering the new period of stay in Schengen.)
