Most common visas, requirements and costs

 

MOST COMMON VISA TYPES AND RELATED REQUIREMENTS

 

TOURIST VISA (“C” type)

Is needed if you plan to go to Italy for tourism, for a period not exceeding 90 days

  1. Visa application form duly filled in with all relevant information and signed
  2. Two (2) recent ICAO standard passport-style, not retouched photos format cm 4x6; please glue only one photo on the application form
  3. Passport valid for at least 3 months after the planned departure date from the Schengen area and that it was issued less than 10 years ago. The passport must have at least two consecutive blank pages for the visa and stamps
  4. Certificate of stable residence in Vietnam (for non-Vietnamese citizens)
  5. Return-trip booking or ticket
  6. Proof of available lodging in Italy: tourist vouchers, hotel booking;
  7. Proof of personal economic means of support: statements of personal bank account of the last 6 months; in case a bank account with associated credit card is provided, copy of the card and credit limit (STANDING). Bank savings accounts are not relevant to demonstrate personal income;
  8. Documents proving socio-professional standing: employment contract, social insurance booklet, leave-permit; authorised and legalised (by the Consular office of the HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs, 184 Pasteur, D1) copy of the original business license if the applicant is an Executive or a Shareholder of a company; for Retired persons: Statement of retirement and allowances
  9. Health insurance policy with a minimum coverage of €30,000 for emergency hospital and repatriation expenses
  10. One copy of all pages of the passport
  11. Certificate (record book) of family register
  12. Any other documents supporting the Visa application can be exhibited by the applicant or requested by the Visa Office

Remarks: If the visa is lodged for a minor, following, additional documents are required:

-      Birth certificate authorized and legalized by the Vietnamese MOFA – Consular Dept. (184 Pasteur, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City)

and if the minor is traveling with one parent or with a third party:

-      Parental consent to be signed at the Consulate General Consular Office hochiminh.consolato@esteri.it

 

TOURIST VISA – VISITING FAMILY/FRIENDS (“C” type)

Is needed if you plan to go to Italy to visit family and/or friends, for a period not exceeding 90 days

  1. Visa application form duly filled in with all relevant information and signed;
  2. Two (2) recent ICAO standard passport-style, not retouched photos format cm 4x6; please glue only one photo on the application form;
  3. Passport valid for at least 3 months after planned departure date from Schengen area and that it was issued less than10 years ago. The passport must have at least two consecutive blank pages for the visa and stamps;
  4. Certificate of stable residence in Vietnam (for non-Vietnamese citizens)
  5. Return-trip booking or ticket and/or evidence that the applicant has their own means of transport
  6. Proof of available lodging in Italy: Applicants’ proof of sponsorship / private accommodation by means of national form, inclusive of an ID copy of the inviting person (FORM)
  7. A guarantee contract (“Atto di fidejussione bancaria”) covering the period of stay made by the inviting person through a Bank or an Insurance Company in Italy (DISCRETIONARY)
  8. Proof of personal economic means of support: statements of personal bank account of the last 6 months; in case a bank account with associated credit card is provided, copy of the card and credit limit (STANDING). Bank savings accounts are not relevant to demonstrate personal income
  9. BUSINESS VISA (“C” type)

Is needed if you plan to go to Italy on a trip for business reasons or short professional training, for a period not exceeding 90 days

  1. Visa application form duly filled in with all relevant information and signed
  2. Two (2) recent ICAO standard passport-style, not retouched photos format cm 4x6; please glue only one photo on the application form
  3. Passport valid for at least 3 months after planned departure date from Schengen area and that it was issued less than10 years ago. The passport must have at least two consecutive blank pages for the visa and stamps
  4. Certificate of stable residence in Vietnam (for non-Vietnamese citizens)
  5. Return ticket or booking
  6. Documents of  the local Company (authorised copy of the business license legalised by the Vietnamese MoFA – Consular Dept., copy of transactions of the corporate bank accounts over the last 6 months, letter of appointment of the employee/s on business trip abroad, employment contract, copy of the social insurance booklet, tax payments of the last 6 months, etc.); Verbal Note of the Department for External Affairs is required for holders of Service Passports
  7. Filled-in form of invitation letter from the Italian company explaining the purpose and the duration of the trip. The invitation letter must be addressed directly to the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, at hochiminh.visti@esteri.it and hochiminh.commerciale@esteri.it (IMPORTANT: applications without previous emailing of invitation letters will not be accepted)
  8. Copy of the certificate of registration of the Italian inviting company (“Visura Camerale”). The certificate of registration (“Visura camerale”) must be addressed directly to the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, at hochiminh.commerciale@esteri.it (IMPORTANT: applications without previous emailing of the certificate of registration will not be accepted)
  9. Proof of personal economic means of support: statements of personal bank account of the last 6 months; in case a bank account with associated credit card is provided, copy of the card and credit limit (STANDING). Bank savings accounts are not relevant to demonstrate personal income
  10. Health insurance policy with a minimum coverage of €30,000 for emergency hospital and repatriation expenses
  11. Certificate (record book) of family register
  12. Hotel reservation or proof of a pre-paid or free accommodation offer in Italy;
  13. One (1) copy of all pages of the passport
  14. Any other documents supporting the Visa application can be exhibited by the applicant or requested by the Visa Office

Remarks: For participation to fairs in Italy: evidence of the payment of the exhibition hall / stand, copy of the floor-map of the stand/pavilion have to be included as well as the evidence of the shipment of the goods to be displayed in the fair.

 

STUDY VISA (“C” type) 

Is needed if you intend to stay in Italy for a maximum of 90 days for study or vocational training

  1. Visa application form duly filled in with all relevant information and signed
  2. Two (2) recent ICAO standard, not retouched passport-style photos format 4x6; please glue only one photo on the application form
  3. Passport valid for at least 3 months after planned departure date from Schengen area and that it was issued less than 10 years ago. The passport must have at least two consecutive blank pages for the visa and stamps
  4. Certificate of stable residence in Vietnam (for non-Vietnamese citizens)
  5. Invitation from the Italian Institute/University/Agency. The invitation letter must be addressed directly to the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, at hochiminh.visti@esteri.it (IMPORTANT: applications without previous emailing of invitation letters will not be accepted)
  6. Return ticket or booking
  7. Proof of means of support in Italy for the whole period of study. This availability can be proven through personal bank statement of account, Income tax returns, Tax payments, Pension and Insurance contribution; bank savings accounts are not relevant to demonstrate personal income
  8. Documents issued by the Employer: decision to send employee/s on study or training trip abroad, work contract. Verbal Note by Department for External Affairs is required for holders of Diplomatic and Service Passport
  9. Hotel reservation or proof of a pre-paid or free accommodation offer in Italy
  10. Health insurance policy with a minimum coverage of €30,000 for emergency hospital and repatriation expenses
  11. Certificate (record book) of family register
  12. Copy of all pages of the passport;
  13. Any other documents supporting the Visa application can be exhibited by the applicant or requested by the Visa Office.

EU/EEA citizens’ family members: EU/EEA citizens’ family members benefit of a privileged treatment accorded by law (Directive 2004/38/CE and Italian Legislative Decree 30/2007). In order to demonstrate a family relation with EU/EEA citizens, please bring your marriage (or) family (or) birth certificate. EU/EEA citizens’ family members benefit from a reduced list of documents. EU/EEA family member reunion applicants will be issued a short term tourism visa: once in Italy please go to relevant police authorities to convert your visa into residence permit. Please, check the following paragraphif according to your family relation with the EU/EEA citizen you do have the right to exemption from visa fee.

VISA FEES

National visas: 116 EUR. National study visas: 50 EUR. Schengen visas: 80 EUR 

-       children from the age of 6 years and up to 12 years: 40 EUR

-       nationals of countries with which the EU has concluded Visa Facilitation Agreements shall pay a fee of 35 EUR. Please consult the list on the European Commission website to know if your country is one of them.

Visa fees are waived for applicants belonging to one of the following categories:

  • children under 6 years
  • school pupils, students, postgraduate students and accompanying teachers who undertake short-term stays for the purpose of study or educational training
  • researchers from third countries travelling for the purpose of carrying out scientific research as defined in Recommendation No 2005/761/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 September 2005 to facilitate the issue by the Member States of uniform short-stay visas for researchers from third countries travelling within the Community for the purpose of carrying out scientific research
  • representatives of non-profit organizations aged 25 years or less participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organized by non-profit organizations
  • EU/EEA citizens dependent family members, when accompanying or joining the EU/EEA relative, falling under Directive 2004/38/CE and Italian Legislative Decree 30/2007:

-      spouses

-      partner (in case of bounding civil union, compared by hosting  Member State’s law to marriage and not in violation of hosting Member State law)

-      descendants, including spouses’ and legal partners’ descendants, under 21 years old

-      direct ascendants, including spouses’ and legal partners’ ascendants

  • diplomatic passport holders (for stays in Italy are also exempted, and in countries with which agreements are in force for exemption)

Applicants lodging the visa application at the Italy Visa Application Centre will also be asked to pay a service fee: VND 370.000 for all visas.
